Great Western Bike Trail

After the Chicago and Western Railroad abandoned their rail lines running from Martensdale through Cumming to Des Moines, Iowa, surrounding communities pitched together to convert them to nature trails shared by both hikers and bicycle enthusiasts. These asphalt paved trails wander through the rolling Iowa hills past prairie and wetland areas that highlight Iowa's diverse ecological habitats.

Francesca's House

Located in the northeast corner of Madison county, this house was fully restored for the filming of the movie The Bridges Of Madison County starring Clint Eastwood and Merle Streep. The house reflects a affluent farming families  home during the middle of the 19th century. The house was damaged by an arsonist in 2003, and is no longer open for tours.

St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Church

Built around 1870, St. Patricks Irish Settlement Church replaced the early log church that was constructed by the initial settlers of the Cumming area. St. Patricks is the quintessential rural community church that has served the Cumming community for over 130 years, and is still in use today. In 1979 Pope John Paul II visited this church as only one of three stops he made in the United States during his world tour.

Home Of Iowa Senator Tom Harkin

Tom Harkin is the product of small town Iowa who has not forgotten his origins. He was born November 19, 1939 to a coal miner father and a Slovenian immigrant mother who passed away when Tom was ten years old. Tom, his three brothers, two sisters and their parents shared a two-bedroom home in Cumming for many years. Today, the Harkin family still farms around Cumming, and his extended family participates in many civic and philanthropic organizations in our community.

St. Johns Cemetery

In the mid 1800's, early Iowa territory settlers created a resting place for their companions that they called St. John's Cemetery. Over the past century and a half, this quaint cemetery has interred numerous members of some of Iowa's founding families. Today, you can still pay your respects to the hardworking visionaries that broke the virgin soil of Warren County, and turned it into some of the most productive farmland in the world.

Celebration Barn

The Celebration Barn is a historic and unique rural setting for hosting any type of social event. Situated in the rolling hills surrounding Cumming, this facility can accommodate up to 400 guests with all of the amenities one would want for that special wedding or other event. It is located at 2225 Cumming Avenue just east of town.
